Recently, Anrun Group‑Anhui Zhongrun Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (ZRHI) has formally signed a construction contract for 2+1+1+1 vessels of 41,000‑DWT IMO Type‑II chemical tankers with a renowned Greek shipowner. The vessel series is independently developed and designed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI). This marks another recognition from overseas ship‑owners for Zhongrun Heavy Industry in the high‑end liquid‑cargo vessel market and further deepens China‑Greece industrial cooperation in shipbuilding and shipping.

The newly‑signed 41,000‑DWT vessels are mainstream MR‑type oil‑chemical product tankers in the market. Fully compliant with the IBC Code (International Bulk Chemical Code), they feature epoxy‑coated cargo tanks, enabling safe carriage of Category‑II & III hazardous chemicals as well as finished oil products. Capable of simultaneous transportation of multiple liquid‑cargo types, the vessels boast excellent adaptability to ports and shipping routes, and can serve major global chemical‑trade lanes including Europe‑Asia and Trans‑Atlantic routes.

Optimized by SDARI in terms of hull lines, liquid‑cargo systems and energy‑efficiency indicators to meet the shipowner’s operational requirements, the tankers satisfy IMO Tier‑III emission standards and EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) requirements. Balancing fuel economy, flexible cargo‑carrying capacity and eco‑friendly performance, they are well aligned with the low‑carbon trend across the global shipping sector.

Under the contract terms, two firm‑order vessels will move forward steadily through keel‑laying, launching and delivery milestones, while the remaining three are optional vessels subject to the shipowner’s exercise right. Should all five options take effect, the project will set a new record for oil‑chemical tanker construction at Zhongrun Heavy Industry. According to Clarkson Research data, the shipyard’s previous largest chemical‑tanker contract was a 33,500‑DWT chemical tanker awarded by a Greek shipowner this July, scheduled for delivery in January 2028. Throughout project execution, the shipyard and designer will work closely to integrate the full workflow covering design conversion, production engineering, construction and survey, with strict technical supervision, to deliver a new‑generation high‑performance, cost‑efficient chemical tanker for the shipowner.
